Wired flashing and serial diagnostics — not HID control
The desktop app does not control HID
Day-to-day HID control is done from the ZeroTrace mobile app over Bluetooth. The desktop Companion is only for the wired workflows below — it does not manage HID payloads and it has no web UI.
The Companion is a native desktop app that talks to the device over its wired serial (COM) port. Use it when you specifically want a cable rather than Bluetooth:
- Firmware flashing over USB (also available in the browser via the Web Flasher).
- Serial diagnostics — reading the device's debug serial output while troubleshooting.
Everything else — writing and running scripts, managing files, changing settings, LED and recon control — lives in the mobile app over BLE.
