ZeroTrace HID

Secure WiFi (AP)

WPA2 access point hosted by the device

The device's built-in access point runs WPA2-PSK by default. The AP underpins the TraceNetwork mesh, it is not a management interface (the device is controlled from the mobile app over Bluetooth, and there is no web UI).

Change credentials

The app's Settings let you change the AP SSID, password, and channel. New credentials apply on the next reboot.

For shared environments, change the password from the default before deployment, ZeroTrace is publicly documented and trivially guessable.

Disable

Set WiFi to Off in the app's Settings to disable the AP entirely. The device falls back to USB-HID + BLE only, the mobile app keeps working over BLE. Use this for engagements that prohibit WiFi emissions.

Range

ESP32-S3 onboard PCB antenna, no external dipole. Typical range:

  • 10 m line of sight in Low power mode
  • 30 m line of sight in High power mode
  • Half that through one drywall partition

For longer range (multi-room or outdoor), the integrated antenna is the limit, there's no U.FL connector on HID hardware. The ZeroTrace AirLeak unit ships with U.FL for that use case.
